Treasure Chest at the Bottom of the Sea Translation Chapter 2

From Kirara Fantasia

Chapter 2: Various Battles[edit | edit source]

Shizuku: Ummm, so you are Otohime-sama.... This is okay, right?

Otohime: Sure, cause I'm sooo great! Onee-chan, who are you guys?

Kotone: We're humans who are invited by someone called Umi-chan to come here from the land. Nice to meet you, Otohime-chan.

Otohime: Fuuuun, from the land.... Hey, why is an octopus together with the onee-chan over there? Is it her friend?

Yasuna: If it's my friend then it'd be great if it can at least communicate with me......

Yumine: It's okay, Yasuna-san. There's a genre for that!

Yasuna: Everyone around here doesn't seem to understand what you've said!?

Kon: That girl is indeed Otohime-sama, the one that Umi spoke about, right?

Umi: Yes.

Kon: Despite you saying "Please save Otohime-sama", I didn't really see anything that seems serious going on here.....

Nadeshiko: Rather I feel that she's too energetic.

Yuzuko: So it's probably an issue of Otohime-sama being too energetic, and you wanted to calm her down a bit?

Kirara: No matter how you put it, such a thing would be.....

Umi: That's right.

Kirara: Really!?

Umi: Actually the Otohime-sama.....Hime-chan that you're seeing right now, has been influenced by the tamatebako, which reverted her back into a child.

TL: Tamatebako (玉手箱), is the name of a mysterious box which is received by the fisherman Urashima Tarō from Princess Otohime as a parting gift in the Japanese folk tale "Urashima Tarō" (The story the event is based on). The tamatebako turned Urashima into an old man at the end of the original story. So here in the Kirara Fantasia version of the story, the effects of the Tamatebako is reversed.

Nadeshiko: Speaking of tamatebako, I think of this. When you open it the smoke inside turn you into an old man or a crane.

TL: Alright. Here Nadeshiko references a variation of the Urashima Tarō tale. In this version, there's this three-tiered "Tamatebako", which is essentially three tamatebakos. And it is told that the first tamatebako contained the feather of a crane, the second with white smoke that turned Urashima into an old man, and the third contained a mirror for him to look at himself. The feather from the first box then fastened itself on his back, now transforming Urashima into a crane, and the princess appeared in the guise of a turtle to see him.

Yuzuko: Oh, transformations are cool, aren't they? I like sentai stuff.

Nadeshiko: Then I'll be Red since I'm the Outdoor Club Red.....

Yuzuko: But I'm the Data Processing Club Red?

Kon: They're the same colour! But on the contrary there isn't any elements with red for the two of you!?

Kirara: ......Why is such a box in Ryūgū Palace? Isn't it dangerous?

Yuzuko: Kirara-chan, you just brushed us off elegantly. Curry (A yellow card). Kirara-chan should probably be Yellow.

TL: In Japan, the word curry (カレー) can not only mean the food, but it can also be a euphemism for yellow cards in soccer.

Nadeshiko: If it's curry then there's also green curry and white curry.

Yuzuko: I see, so then Kirara-chan can have yellow for her head, green for her chest, and white for her lower body.....

I can't wait to see fanart of this. This is too good.
Also, Yuzuko and Nadeshiko is a wonderful pair that I never imagined.

Yuzuko: Huh? Rice is also white.

Kon: For goodness sake, stop interrupting her.

Yuzuko: Kay.

Umi: Originally, the tamatebako is supposed to be handed over as a souvenir to the honored person from the land who came all the way down here.

Umi: However, those people on the land who came and gone mostly ignored it, so it had been placed in the shed and covered by dust.....

Yuzuko: That souvenir tamatebako is opened by Otohime-chan for some reason.

Umi: Yes. It's an old item and it's not supposed to be opened, and Hime-chan should have known that well too....

Kon: I wonder there's some particular reason behind this?

Nadeshiko: Perhaps the tamatebako was dropped when cleaning, and the lid got opened?

Umi: I'm not sure. When I asked Hime-chan she wouldn't tell me anything about it.....

Yuzuko: So then, what should we do?

Umi: To save her, of course!

Kon: We've came all the way here. We won't leave here at this point.

Kirara: You're right. Also, we mustn't ignore people who are in need!

Umi: Everyone..... thank you so much!

(Transition)

Shizuku: We've heard the story behind the tamatebako, but how are we supposed to revert Otohime-chan back to normal?

Kotone: We can like raise her until she reaches her original age♪

Shizuku: How many years are you planning to stay here.....

Umi: I want everyone to go and retrieve the tamatebako, in order to revert Hime-chan back to normal.

Kotone: The reverse tamatebako?

Umi: There are several types of tamatebako. If there's one that makes you younger, then there has to be one that makes you older.

Shizuku: I see. If a tamatebako can turn you into a kid, then it can also do the reverse and make you an adult.

Umi: However, to obtain the tamatebako, you must meet the Hermit who manages the boxes.

Umi: The path to there is a difficult one even for us sea creatures.

Yumine: That's why you're looking for "Strong people on the land".

Umi: Yes. I consider everyone who saved me as those who'd become strong warriors.

Yumine: Yet we're just students.....

Nadeshiko: Not becoming a corporate warrior, but an academic warrior.

TL: Corporate warrior (企業戦士), is a Japanese slang, referring to those who are willing to work to their death.

Yuzuko: We also talk about "Examination Wars". So we are experienced with wars!

Shizuku: That doesn't make any sense?

Yuzuko: Alright. Until we find the tamatebako our battles will never end!
